Description
Physical Features: The opening of the Dakshinavarti shankha is to the right (south), which is uncommon and distinguishes it from the more prevalent left-spiral (Vaamavarti) shankh.
Spiritual Status: It is revered as a form of Mahalakshmi herself and is considered one of the most powerful and sacred ritual items in both home and temple altars.
Ritual & Auspicious Uses
Not for Blowing: Traditionally, the Dakshinavarti shankh is installed and worshipped, not blown.
Placement: Kept in the puja room, northeast, or on a clean silver plate, wrapped in red or yellow silk. Smeared with sandalwood, saffron, and fresh flowers in daily worship.
Puja Vidhi: Daily recitation of Lakshmi mantras ("Om Shreem Maha Lakshmaye Namah"), Fridays, Purnima (full moon), and Diwali are particularly auspicious for energizing the shankha.
